Advisor Handbook
UVSC knows the importance of its advisors and believes your impact on student success can never be understated or your skills overdeveloped. Your career at UVSC requires you have a complete and ever growing set of tools. However, the tools we are referring to can never be stored neatly in a box or chest waiting for your use, many are stored in your mind. They are your experiences, knowledge and ability to communicate school policies, procedures, processes, programs and resources to new, continuing, and prospective students. We want to ensure that the information you are disseminating is timely, accurate and consistent. The Advisor Handbook is a ready reference where you can "fine tune" your skills and quickly provide the most up to date information to those you are assisting.
The Definition of Advising is: A process in which advisor and advisee enter a dynamic relationship respectful of the student's concerns. Ideally, the advisor serves as teacher and guide in an interactive partnership aimed at enhancing the student's self-awareness and fulfillment. O'Banion, T. (1972). An academic advising model. Junior College Journal, 42, 62-69. |
