Deaf Art Exhibit
The Woodbury Art Museum

Deaf Studies Today! Conference at Utah Valley State College (www.deafstudies.org) is proud to announce a Deaf Artists’ Exhibit at The Woodbury Art Museum (www.uvsc.edu/museum) during the conference, April 8-11, 2008. The museum is a short distance away from the conference, providing the conference with a professional exhibit space. This exhibit will feature Deaf artists showing the Deaf experience, language, and culture commonly known as De’VIA or Deaf art.

Participating artists include painters: Iris Nelia Aranda, Chuck Baird, Uzi Buzgalo, Susan Dupor and Alex Wilhite. Connie Clanton, Randy Garber and poster artist Ann Silver demonstrate a wide range of print making techniques. Delora Bertsch, Patti Durr, Tony McGregor, and Guy Wonder are Deaf artists who utilize three-dimensional space in their artworks. Photographers Johnston Grindstaff, Kendra Harnes and Orkid Sassouni apply the De'VIA manifesto to photography. We are including Deaf related cartoons at this year's exhibit, with cartoons from Matt Daigle, Shawn Richardson, Ann Silver, and Tony McGregor.

Opening reception will be on Thursday, April 10, from 3:30 to 7:30 pm. Some of you have already registered for the conference and the opening reception will be a part of the conference. You are encouraged to register for a guided tour at the museum at the registration table.

We will have a Buyer’s Auction at the Woodbury Museum, from 5:30-6:30 pm on Friday, April 11. Serious art buyers can purchase the artworks at that time. Payment will be accepted only by check.

Please see Woodbury Museum's website at www.uvsc.edu/museum/ for the museum's location. The exhibit will be open to the public from 11 am- 7 pm, from Tuesday, April 8 to Friday, April 11.
