Matriculation

In the fall of 2004, the School’s Strategic Research Committee formed to coordinate institutional research between and within the departments of the School. Crucial for this purpose is defining “who” is a developmental education student and “what” is the developmental education program that the student may complete. Matriculation through the program can not be researched or improved until these definitions are decided. From the perspective of the Department of Basic Composition, the following report suggests some working definitions for both a developmental student and program.

November 10, 2004: BC-2 Students in ENGH 0890 and 0990 Courses

The possibility exists that the Department may not be serving all the students who test into or who are placed into ENGH 0890 and ENGH 0990. As read in the following report, as many as 492 and as few as 78 such students may exist in a fall semester. Identifying this circumstance may cause faculty to consider questions like these: Should new students who test into ENGH 0890 or ENGH 0990 be required to register for these courses? Does the Department need an additional tenure-track line so that these “underserved” students may be taught in ENGH 0890 or ENGH 0990?

February 27, 2005: Matriculation: ENGH 0890, ENGH 0990, ENGL 1010

The following research reports contain statistics relevant to students progressing through this sequence of composition courses: ENGH 0890, ENGH 0990, ENGL 1010.

October 21, 2002: Converting Some ENGH 0890 Sections to ENGH 0990 Sections.

October 30, 2002: Trends in Maximum Enrollmens in ENGH 0990 May Conflict with Retention and May Setback Outcome Assessment

November 27, 2002: Summer Sessions (ENGH 0890 and ENGH 0990) and a Weak Link (ENGH 0890 to 0990)
