ADVISING INFORMATION/STUDENT RESOURCES

GENERAL ADVISING INFORMATION: Summer semester is here and fall is on it's way....now is a great time to set up an appointment for academic advising. Our program is open enrollment but you still have to go through a formal application process (Matriculation) in order to graduate. There are five specific courses you need to complete with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA in those five courses to matriculate. This needs to be done about 1 year before you are planning to graduate. Come speak with us at least every other semester so that we can keep your file updated and our records correct. We want to make sure you're taking the right classes and getting the most out of your UVU educational experience! Please call or stop by our office to set up an appointment., you may also call the front desk at 801-863-6211 or 801-863-8083!

UVLINK EMAIL ADDRESS: We send out important information to this account frequently regarding our multiple programs, academic information, and job/volunteer/internship opportunities. It would be to your benefit to check this account regularly. If you are not currently receiving our emails and would like to please let us know! You can set up this account to automatically forward the e-mails it receives to an account you regularly check by going to your e-mail account in UVLink and clicking on options and then auto forward, there you would enter in the e-mail address you want them sent to.

STUDENT RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES: If you are interested in research, we have a lot of good opportunities to get involved in research projects for credit or volunteer experience. This is a great way to prepare for graduate school and to help build your resumes and curriculum vitas. For more information, please feel free to contact us and check our student research link.

PRACTICUM: If you are a student in our Bachelors degree with the emphasis of Social Work, SOWK 4800: Practicum is required. You have to take practicum the semester you are graduating. You can not go online and register for this course. You need to check your UVLink E-mail account for information regarding this course. Once you contact us either by e-mail or in person we'll give you the paperwork you need to register for this course. There are specific deadlines to have your paperwork turned in by and you must follow these deadlines in order to have a guaranteed seat in that course. Deadlines are typically around the middle of the semester prior to the semester you must take practicum (your last semester).
***Practicum is highly recommended for students under the Psychology emphasis as well!

SENIOR INTERNSHIP: If you are interested in gaining experience out in the field doing supervised hours and receiving 1-8 credits toward graduation our BESC 481R: Senior Internship class would be great for you. You must be a senior in our program and have completed ENGL 2010 or 2020, and PSY 3020 in order to register. You must meet with us for details and to pick up your contract papers. Senior Internship would count as an allied course or behavioral science elective depending on your emphasis.

VOLUNTEERING: If you are interested in gaining more experience in the field and contributing to society we recommend volunteer work. It is a great way to help you discover what you want to do, build your resume, and gain more experience to help you later get into graduate school and hired for jobs. Check out our Job/Volunteer link above for a list of current positions. Also feel free to download the packet of related agencies, this is great place to start your volunteer work.
