Services
The Career and Academic Counseling Center is committed to meeting career and academic needs of students, faculty, staff, and community members by providing the following services:
Academic Advising
- Serve as first contact for student questions (walk-in and telephone)
- Advise undecided students
- Advise students regarding general education requirements
- Refer students to appropriate departments
- Provide advisement when departmental advisors are unavailable
- Provide transfer information for programs that UVSC does not have
- Provide transfer information for graduate programs
- Listen to student issues and assist and/or refer to appropriate student services
Career Counseling
- Provide career interest/personality testing
- Offer one-on-one academic/vocational counseling
- Encourage use of Choices career and education software
- Maintain a career resource library
- Provide career workshops
Academic Standards
- Advise students on warning, probation, and suspension status
- Conduct Academic Standards Workshops
- Connect students with student support resources
- Supervise the mentoring program for students on suspension
- Offer and supervise internships for Behavioral Science majors
- Advise Concurrent Enrollment high school students with college GPA below 2.0
Advisor Training
- Facilitate training for all faculty, staff and peer advisors across campus
- Teach use of Banner screens
- Provide advising resources
- Disseminate important general advising information
- Co-chair Advisement Forum
- Conduct New Advisor orientation
- Chair Banner Implementation Committee
Community Outreach
- Offer vocational evaluation services for outside agencies; e.g., Division of Workforce Services, Vocational Rehabilitation, etc.
- Provide career counseling, and testing for members of the community
