| ACADEMIC STANDING | DEFINITION | |

| GOOD STANDING | When the most recent semester GPA and the cumulative GPA are 2.0 or higherh | The student will continue to maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher in order to remain in good standing. |

When the most recent semester GPA is below 2.0 and the cumulative GPA is above 2.0 | The student must complete the online workshop at: https://www.uvsc.edu/careeracad/workshop/, print a workshop completion certificate, and then take to his/her department advisor to have the hold removed. The student may also fax the certificate to Academic Standards at (801)863-8176. |
| PROBATION Includes a registration hold |
When the cumulative GPA is below 2.0 or when the student has more than 2 consecutive semesters on warning. | To clear a probation hold, a student must attend the on-campus Academic Success Workshop, (for dates and times click here), and then meet with his/her major advisor and develop a success plan to repair GPA. |
| CONTINUED PROBATION Includes a registration hold |
When on Probation, the subsequent cumulative GPA is again below 2.0 | A student on Continued Probation must develop a success plan, and meet with the Academic Support Advisor before the student will be eligible to register. The student may also be required to attend a workshop or College Success Studies class and meet with his/her major advisor. All students on Continued Probation will be required to submit an In-Progress Grade Report (to find form click here) to the Academic Support Advisor before registering for a subsequent semester |
| SUSPENSION Includes a registration hold |
When cumulative grades are below 2.0 for a third semester | A student who is Continued Probation and subsequently receives a semester and cumulative GPA below 2.0 is placed on Suspension status. A student who has been suspended from UVSC must sit out for at least one semester. In order to return to UVSC, he/she must submit a Petition for Suspension Review form (to find form click here) to the Academic Support Office (WB 147) by the deadlines outlined on the petition form. The Academic Standards Committee will review the petition and determine whether or not and under what conditions the student may continue to study at UVSC. As long as the student complies with the committee's guidelines he/she may remain at UVSC. |
| DISMISSAL | When a student fails to complete Academic Standards Committee conditions | A student is dismissed from UVSC when he/she is on Suspension status and fails to comply with the conditions set forth by the Academic Standards Committee. If a student is dissatisfied with the results of this appeal, the student may present a written request for review to the Academic Standards Committee within two weeks following notification of the committee's decision. After reviewing the appeal, the committee will make the final decision. If the student is still unsatisfied with the committee's decision, he/she may appeal in writing to the Vice-President of Student Services. Any student who returns to UVSC after being dismissed will be placed on Continued Suspension and will be required to follow the guidelines that are given to him/her by the Academic Standards Committee. |
| READMISSION | A student who leaves UVSC with a GPA below 2.0 must petition in order to be reinstated | The student will submit an academic re-admittance petition to the Academic Standards Committee (this form may be obtained in CACC WB-147, 863-8425). |
