Gary Nielsen, Director
Gary Nielsen, UVSC's Elderhostel Coordinator, has B.S. in Recreation Administration
and an M.A. in Community Education Administration. In addition to 20 years of
leading trips and expeditions throughout the U.S., Gary has developed college
degree programs in Outdoor Education. As a professor, he has taught a wide variety
of courses, from Business Management to Leadership Development at Colorado Mountain
College and Colgate University in New York. While working at various colleges
and Universities, Gary has also helped develop Elderhostel Programs. Before joining
us at UVSC, he has most recently directed a company called Southwest Ed-Ventures
at Four Corners School of Outdoor Education, where he took many groups, including
Elderhostel, from the archaeological digs, to fascinating studies with the Ute,
Hopi, and Navajo people. Gary loves to camp with his family, and explore new
destinations for future Elderhostel programs. He also loves to sing, play guitar
and harmonica.
