MISSION STATEMENT:

The School of Continuing and Adult Education at Utah Valley University provides lifelong learning for the individual and the community. The School is dedicated to delivering quality credit and non-credit services designed to enrich lives and position participants at the forefront of technological and educational advances.

The School serves as an advocate to systematically enhance accessibility to college programs, courses, and services. In this capacity, the School functions as the college vehicle to originate, develop, and nurture innovative and responsible projects and programs for the campus and the community.

"PRINCIPLES OF GOOD PRACTICE FOR CONTINUING & ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAMS"

I. PROGRAM MANAGEMENT/ADMINISTRATION

A. Continuing & Adult Education programs are designed and delivered in a manner consistent with the highest standards of ethical practice.

B. Continuing & Adult Education policies and procedures are well-defined, clearly communicated, and understood.

C. Continuing & Adult Education places a high value on its people as a most important asset in carrying out its mission.

C.1 Expectations and responsibilities will be clearly communicated to each employee.

C.2 People will be treated with fairness, respect, and dignity.

C.3 Professional development opportunities will be supported.

C.4 Internal communications will be open and continuous within a positive environment.

D. Continuing & Adult Education will actively participate in an environmental scanning program.

II. PROGRAM DESIGN & DELIVERY:

A. Continuing & Adult Education programs are designed and delivered in a learning centered environment with the emphasis on the student.

A.1 the most important person at the institution is the learner.

A.2 Faculty, staff, and administrators etc. are responsible to facilitate, support, and enhance the learning process.

B. New programs are sufficiently reviewed and appropriate assessments made before implementation.

C. Sufficient student and faculty support services are addressed before a program is initiated.

III. EVALUATION & ASSESSMENT:

A. Continuing & Adult Education programs are developed in response to needs assessments and delivered in a manner that is timely and consistent with the institution's overall mission.

B. Existing programs are continuously evaluated to determine student outcome, effectiveness of content, delivery systems, and faculty competency

B.1 Evaluations include mechanisms to ascertain individual learning outcomes in addition to program outcomes.

B.2 Evaluation instruments are keyed to the continuing education environment and learner.

C. Adequate personnel and financial support are in place to manage the evaluation and assessment process.

IV. ADVOCACY:

A. The School of Continuing & Adult Education stands as a firm advocate to encourage changes in policies that affect student awareness and access to programs and their ability to complete programs.
