Outcomes Assessment
The Department of College Success and Academic Literacy links outcomes assessment directly with their mission statement and the mission statements of Utah Valley State College and the School of General Academics. Although general assessment occurs in all classes, two of the department's central courses-CLSS 1000, College Student Success, and CTRS 1170, Advanced Critical Thinking and Reading-are consistently evaluated on a formal basis. The general intended outcome for Advanced Critical Thinking and Reading is that students will increase their college textbook reading ability and their self-efficacy levels in handling such material. The general intended outcome for College Student Success is that students will demonstrate increased awareness and be able to apply effective study strategies. This course is also directly tied to campus-wide retention efforts. NADE Certification The Department of College Success and Academic Literacy is actively pursuing certification from the National Association of Developmental Education. NADE certification sets high standards of good practice backed by the literature and research in the profession (http://nade.net/). Students, courses, and the college will benefit from this external and objective validation of academic excellence. |
