Lesson 1

Conclusion

In this Lesson you've learned more about what Web design is, and know a little about how aspects of information design, interaction design, and graphic design come together in professional Web design. We've begun to talk about usability and why the user experience is important. A focus on the usability of each page of the Web site contributes to an user-centered design philosophy. To achieve user-centered design we must make the audience the pivotal point of our Web site plan. We can begin to do by explicitly defining the Web site's primary audience(s) and it's primary goal(s) or purpose(s), and then by keeping a written copy of these audience and goal statements close at hand throughout the Web design process.

You may have noticed that the work we've done so far falls into Stage 1 of the Web design process as outlined earlier:

  1. Define the Project
  2. Develop Site Structure & Organize Information
  3. Develop Page Structure & Organize Interactions
  4. Design Graphic User Interface
  5. Build Web Site
  6. Produce & Publish Web Site

The next stage is Develop Site Structure and Organize Information; we'll embark on that path in the next lesson.
