Student Resources

Distance Education at UVSC offers the following resources to students:

DE Help Desk

Support is available through walk-up, telephone, and live chat 13 hours per day, 5 days per week.

Registration

The Distance Education Service Center facilitates course registration for distance students.

Exam Proctoring

Proctored exams are available to students who are unable to take exams on campus. Follow the exam protoring instructions to request your exams.

Media Rental

The lecture content for broadcast courses can be checked out on VHS or DVD through the Distance Education Service Center using the video rental form.

UVSC Bookstore

The UVSC Bookstore is a good source for course materials. Purchases can be made over the phone or online with a credit card and Bookmatch, which helps ensure that you are purchasing the correct materials for your registered classes. This service can be accessed through UVLink under the Student Tab.

Textbook orders can be shipped by FedEx Ground, or they may be picked up at "Will Call" at the Advancement Building, 500 W 1200 S, Orem, UT. Pickup hours are 8:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Mon-Thurs, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Fri. If a book is not available, make sure the charge for the book appears on your order. If it does not, you will need to reorder the book when it is available.

It will take 48 hours for processing before your order is shipped by FedEx Ground. Expect at least a week for arrival.

The following information is vital for all orders:

Full address, including apartment #
Correct credit card # and expiration date
Phone number (If there are delivery problems, FedEx will call.)

Site Facilitators at high schools need to order books for Live Interactive courses through the Bookstore-Sponsored Accounts Specialist. She can be reached through the toll-free number or her personal extension. Students pay sales tax.

If a textbook has been available, but is currently out of stock, you will need to place a special order for it.

Special Orders on Campus
Request your book at the "Special Order Desk" in the bookstore. You will receive a "Special Order" form with a voucher number. Pay for the book to process your request.

UVSC Library

The UVSC Library provides many services that can help distance education students in their research and study. Extensive resources are available, including search databases, online full-text articles, access to online periodical indexes and abstract listings, interlibrary loan service, etc. A student identification card may be used to check out materials from any Utah System of Higher Education institution.

Writing Lab and OWL (Online Writing Lab)

The UVSC Writing Center provides a number of services at no cost. You may make an appointment, or just drop in to receive help with English or with any other UVSC class assignment.

If you are not able to come to the UVSC Orem campus, the Writing Center provides the On-Line Writing Lab (OWL). Using the OWL, you can e-mail papers to tutors for feedback and assistance or join in discussion groups with other students who might be writing similar types of papers. In addition, you can get answers to writing and grammar questions by accessing web-based writing and grammar resources or by participating in online tutoring.

Math Lab and Mathlab Online

The Math Lab offers free in-person tutoring. You do not have to be enrolled in a math class to take advantage of this service. MathLab Online allows you to chat live with a tutor on an easy-to-use electronic whiteboard.

Peer Tutoring and OPT (Online Peer Tutoring)

Peer tutoring is free of charge. It can take place in person, or questions may be emailed to lectutor@uvsc.edu. Be sure to enter the name of the course (eg: HIST1000, PHIL2050) on the subject line.

Online Peer Tutoring (OPT) uses live chat, message boards, and/or email. Please visit the OPT website for more information.
