Interaction of UVSC's E-Mail Systems
UVSC's Linkmail and GroupWise systems are each complete e-mail systems. They can function separately from all other components of the UVSC e-mail infrastructure. UVSC has created the e-mail infrastructure to enhance the functionality of the e-mail systems and to protect them as much as possible from malicious messages that threaten to cause problems. Before incoming Internet e-mail is received by LinkMail or GroupWise, first the UVSC E-Mail Firewall and then the Avinti iSolation Server receive and check each message to ensure it is safe. Even messages that are sent between LinkMail and GroupWise are filtered through the UVSC E-Mail Firewall and the Avinti iSolation Server.
The design, and indeed the purpose of the WebCT e-mail system is such that interactions between it and any other e-mail systems are not possible. WebCT is a closed system that is entirely self-contained. This provides an optimal environment for course related messaging without interference or compromise by outside messages. It is designed only for use between students and instructors to enhance the learning experience.
