CASE STUDY-REFRIGERATION AND AIR CONDITIONING
Dave is a refrigeration and air-conditioning specialist, and has spent a number of years learning about his field and developing skills as a professional. He is called upon periodically by local church leaders to repair refrigerators or other appliances for church members who cannot afford to hire someone at normal service rates. Dave's church leader asks him to do the repairs and submit a bill to the church for payment.
Dave is an active member of his church and feels some obligation to help his local church leaders in providing for the needs of those less fortunate. Dave knows that the church in question is a multi-billion dollar enterprise and certainly has the funds to pay him for his work. On the other hand he knows that the funds the local leader will use to pay him come from donations of local members, Dave himself being one who contributes.
Dave's normal hourly rate is $50.00 per hour, and if a part costs him $10.00, he normally sells it for $20.00. These repairs for church members are often complicated and take a long time to complete. Also, they usually require the replacement of parts.
