Did you know UVSC has a license for Turnitin plagiarism prevention software? We do!
As their site notes, "Turnitin’s comprehensive plagiarism prevention system lets you quickly and effectively check all of your students’ work in a fraction of the time necessary to scan a few suspect papers using a search engine."
What UVSC has is not a site-license arrangement, but a service we buy into based on the number of students we have and the kind of resources we want to access. We then set up a certain number of users that can access the service. Once a person is set up in the system, they can submit papers all they want for them to check. Turnitin returns a report containing matches to their very expansive database of electronic materials that could be used for plagiarism-based writing. They are very careful NOT to make any judgments, they just provide information about matches.
