What is iTunes?
iTunes is jukebox software made by Apple Computer. It is capable of playing MP3, unprotected WMA, WAV, AIFF, and Apple Lossless sound files.
How do I get it?
iTunes can be downloaded from
www.apple.com/itunes
for Windows or Macintosh.
How much does iTunes cost?
iTunes is free to download and use. The only time it would cost you money is if you purchase music from the iTunes Music Store
What is the iTunes Music store?
The iTunes music store is a place to legally download music. Most tracks are 99 cents, most full albums are $9.99. Other online music stores include Napster, Rhapsody, Walmart, and Musicmatch. NOTE: If you own an iPod only music purchased from the iTunes music store will play on it. Music purchased from other music stores is generally not playable on an iPod.
What portable music players can play music purchased from the iTunes Music Store?
Only the Apple iPod can play music purchased from the iTunes Music Store.
How many computers can I play my purchased music on?
You are allowed to play music you have purchased from the iTunes music store on up to five individual computers. To authorize any additional computers for your Music Store account that computer MUST be connected to the Internet. When you attempt to play any music purchased from the music store you will be prompted to enter the iTunes Music Store account ID and password that the music was purchased with. You can load the music onto as many iPods as you want.
What if I don ’t want a certain computer to be able to play my purchased music anymore?
NOTE: The instructions for de-authorizing a computer for a music store account are the same on Windows and on a Macintosh.
Open iTunes on the computer you wish to de-authorize. Click "Advanced" on the toolbar at the top of the window. Click "Deauthorize Computer…". You will then be prompted for the password for the iTunes Music Store account you wish to have de-authorized. Once you enter the password click "OK" and after a few seconds you should receive a message stating that the computer was successfully de-authorized.
What if Windows was reinstalled while the computer was authorized on my Music Store account?
Unfortunately that authorization is lost. Apple does allow you to reset your authorization count once per year. To do this click on "Music Store" inside iTunes. Click on your account name in the Music store window (it should be at the top right-hand side of the window). You will be prompted to enter your password. You will then be shown a screen with a summary of your account information. Just below your billing address is a line that says "Computer Authorizations" followed by a statement of how many computers are authorized to play music purchased with your iTunes Music Store account. If you are able to reset your authorizations there will be a button next that statement that says "Deathorize All" click on that button and your authorization count will be reset. You are permitted to do this once every twelve months.
Where does iTunes store my music?
If you use Windows the default location is My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\
If you use a Macintosh the default location is MacintoshHD\Users\YourShortUserName\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music
What if I lose/delete music I purchased?
Unfortunately that music is lost. You are not able to redownload music you purchased from the iTunes Music Store unless you repurchase the music.
