Windows Vista Firewall Blocking Clean Access

The Windows Vista firewall may block Clean Access when it is installed.  Clean Access appears to work but the user will almost always be quarantined by Clean Access and then be unable to log out.  The only way to log out a user in this situation is for someone with administrative access to the Clean Access management system to go in and manually log the user out of the system.  This problem may not occur immediately.  It could take a few days to a week before the user experiences any problems.

Solution:  Make sure that with every Windows Vista system we setup, the Clean Access client has an entry in the Vista firewall.

Go to Start->Control Panel

In the default view for Vista there is an option under "Security" that you can click that says "Allow a program through the Windows firewall"

OR

In the classic view, go to Windows Firewall then click "Allow a program through the Windows Firewall" on the left side of the window.

 From this screen, click the "Add Program" button, find Clean Access in the list of programs that Windows presents, then click OK.
