UVSCNet Internet Setup

Windows 95/98

To operate UVSCNet, Windows Dial-up networking must be installed.� To see if it is installed on your computer click on the start button, then point your mouse to programs, then accessories.� If you see a Dial-Up Networking icon, then Dial-Up Networking is installed and you can move on to the next step, if not please follow the instructions listed in this step.

Install Dial-Up Networking from your original Windows 95/98 disk

Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel

Double-click Add/Remove Programs Icon

Click on the Windows Setup Tab

Highlight Communications and click the Details button

Place check in the Dial-Up Networking box

Press OK to save Communications settings

Press OK to save Windows Setup settings

Be sure to have your Windows 95/98 disk to copy files if necessary

Install a new Dial-Up connection to UVSCNET by doing the following:

Go to Start, Programs, Accessories, Dial-Up Networking

Double-click on Make New Connection (may come automatically if it is your first Dial-Up connection)

Type UVSCNet as the name of the computer you are dialing

Your modem should already be selected and you may NOT have to press the Configure button if your modem is working

Press the Next button to continue


Type in 801 as the area code and 229-3900

Press the Next button to continue

Press the Finish button to finish adding your UVSCNET connection

Configure the UVSCNet Internet connection by doing the following:

Go to Start, Programs, Dial-Up Networking

Right click on the UVSCNet icon

Left Click Properties from the Menu


Click on General... Button

Click on the Server Types Button

Be sure the Type of Dial-Up Server is PPP: Windows 95 or 98, Windows NT 3.5, Internet

ONLY have check marks for Enable software compression and TCP/IP

Remove any other check marks by clicking on those check marks

Do NOT change the TCP/IP settings.� Leave the settings at the default

Press the OK button to accept configuration for the Server Type

Press the OK button to accept UVSCNet configuration

To setup TCP/IP

Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel


Double click on Network (Your window may not look exactly like this one).

Click on Add...

Click Protocol then Add

Click Microsoft, then TCP/IP and then click on OK

This will bring you back to the Network window (after possibly building some driver information databases)

Remove everything except Dial-Up Adapter and TCP/IP (highlight your deletion and click remove)

Click OK (it is very important that you click OK not cancel).

If you are not prompted to restart your computer do so anyway (Start, Shutdown, Restart).

To login to your UVSCNET do the following:

Go to Start, Programs, Accessories, Dial-Up Networking

Double-click UVSCNET

In the User Name box Type in your UVSCNet username�

In the Password box type in your UVSCNet password

This is the same password you set on your UVSCNet Application.

Click the Connect button

You should get a message saying you are connected!

Double click on The Internet or Netscape

You are now on the Internet

TO ACCESS E-MAIL

To use E-Mail from home you MUST set an E-Mail password on campus.� Use these instructions below to do so:

Go to the computer lab you use on campus

Login to a computer

Open Groupwise (the campus E-Mail program)

Click File

Click Preferences

Double Click password

Check the box labeled Applies only to other users@

Enter a password (you may use the same password as your Internet password if you wish)

Re-enter your password.

Once you have done this you have an E-Mail password

At home connect to the Internet.

Once on the Internet, open the address http://uvscnet.uvsc.edu

Follow the link to Groupwise Web Access.

Type in your login name.

Type in the password you set in GroupWise on campus.

Click the Login button.

You can now read or send mail, if you are sending to an address off campus you must type Internet: before the address and use no spaces in the address.
