McAfee Anti Virus

On a weekly basis, we are installing the latest revision of the Anti-Virus DAT files. This is necessary to ensure that the latest viruses and worms (ie LOVEBUG, etc.) are taken care of.

Virus Threats and Hoaxes:

In view of the such viruses as the Bagle, we are all a little sensitive about virus threats.  Those who perpetrate virus (and other hoaxes) do their dirty work on an ongoing basis. Here is some information that may prove useful to you, if you spend just a few minutes checking things out before reacting to email messages.

When you get an email about some persons unfortunate plight, try checking the McAfee Virus Library Website at http://vil.mcafee.com/default.asp? Here you can learn about viruses, hoaxes, chain letters, etc.

I encourage you to bookmark this site, and use it as needed...preferably before passing on any suspect email messages to associates, friends or family. As a general rule, Computer Services will notify you of any legitimate threats very quickly (as in the Bagle virus). If you are not sure, give the Helpdesk a call at 8152. If we can't answer you on the spot, we can usually find out quickly if something is a hoax or a legitimate threat.
