(Warning: UVSC Helpdesk is not responsible for machines loaded with Windows XP unless installed by an authorized UVSC technician. The UVSC helpdesk may have to reinstall Windows XP in your machine if not originally installed by a UVSC technician.)
Windows XP Professional Installations
There are two options of installing Windows XP Professional on UVSC standard computers. A Windows XP Professional Ghost Image has been created and tested on Standard UVSC computers. The other installation is a (NEW) Clean Install. In both installations the computer would be completely cleaned of all data. Please remember that you must back up all files when upgrading to Windows XP. UVSC does not use the upgrade option of Windows XP Professional due to errors after the upgrade.

Why Windows XP Professional?
Windows XP has a brand new look from the standard operating system. The display is crisp and clear. The icons have a new look and are easy to understand. XP makes working on the network and Internet easier. At start up, Windows XP loads faster than previous operating systems. It also loads and runs programs faster and more reliable. The programs used by the Helpdesk run better and faster in Windows XP. As printing is a big issue among users, Windows XP is more stable; it no longer brings up blue screen errors that make you reboot your system. Instead XP remembers the last point it was working and brings the system back to that point in a matter of seconds. Most software made for Windows will run with XP. NTFS is the recommended file system on UVSC campus.
