New Users

a. Boot up computer.

b. At the Novell login box type your username which is the first six digits of your last name followed by the first two digits of your first name (example: Angela Heaton = heatonan) and hit "Enter". (The exception to this rule is if the username is already taken for example: Mike Johnson and Michelle Johnson. The username cannot be duplicated.)

c. A box will pop up with a message that your password has expired. It will ask you if you would like to create a new one. Select "y" for yes; hit "Enter" then create a password (minimum of 6 characters numbers or letters). Hit "Tab" (or mouse-click) to the next box and retype the password you created.

d. A Windows password box will pop up. Delete all asterisks then mouse-click "OK". If the box comes back with a message "Password not correct", select "Cancel" until it stops showing up.

e. If you have GroupWise (GW) in your "Startup" a GW box will pop up. If a GW box does not pop up, open GW by double-clicking on the GW icon on your desktop. Check to see if the GW login is showing your username (user ID). If not, type your user ID in the box. Then type the password: 12345. Then using your mouse, select: Tools, then Options, then Security. At the "Old password" prompt, type: 12345 and hit "Enter". Create your new password (most people like to make this GW password the same as their network password). Hit "Tab" and type the new GW password again. Another message will pop up with two boxes: "Remember my Password" and "No Password Required for NDS". Be sure to check both boxes so you won't be prompted for a password each time you launch GW.

f. If on your Computer Access Authorization form you signed up to receive access to SIS, FRS, HRS, or LMS on the ALPHA system, come down to Computer Services/Operations (AD005) to initialize your ALPHA password.

If you have any problems logging into the network, please call the HelpDesk at ext. 8152.
