Self-Maintenance for Macintosh

PC

Macintosh

When you receive a new Macintosh call the Help Desk to do any hardware and software updates or patches that need to be installed on your new machine.

*The following tips only apply to Macs prior to the new Intel based Macs

(if you have a question about your Mac, please contact the HelpDesk at

x8888).*

Zap the PRAM. Press the Command, Option and the "p" + "r" buttons all at

once at boot up to zap the PRAM. This will restore the factory defaults

computer settings of your computer. Zap the pram if a port will not work

such as SCSI, Modem or Printer ports. You can also zap your PRAM if you

are having problems at start up such as a sad Mac, or blinking disk icon.

Rebuild the desktop often to rebuild the database. This will give your

computer better performance if you do this once every 2 or 3 weeks.

Press the Command, Option and Shift keys down all at once on boot up.

Never unplug or plug devices into your Macintosh when it is turned on.

The end.
