Associate Vice President, International Affairs
Dr. Butler is the Associate Vice President for international affairs and Director of the Utah-Russia Institute at Utah Valley State College. In addition, he is the Honorary Consul General of the Russian Federation in Utah and President of the Utah Consular Corps which represents all foreign consulates in Utah (24).
Dr. Butler’s career started as a professor of linguistics in Canada from which he branched into private business in western Canada and the United States. He later served as a senior staff member in the U.S. Senate and the Reagan White House before entering management with the Boeing Corporation in its military operations. He returned to the academic world at UVSC in 1992.
Dr. Butler was awarded the medal of merit by the Russian Foreign Ministry and has published in the Ministry’s journal, International Affairs. He is an accomplished triathlete, cyclist, marathon runner and plays ice hockey in his spare time.
Maryna Storrs
Coordinator, International Affairs
Maryna is originally from Ukraine. She first came to the United States at the age of fifteen. In 1994 she won a scholarship from Freedom Support Act (FSA) program to come to the United States as an exchange student and learn democracy, American history and economics as well as to experience an American life style. After staying with her host family in Orem, Utah, and going to Orem High School for one year, she returned to Ukraine, graduated from gymnasium with extensive learning of the English language and was accepted to two universities- Polytechnic University in her hometown, Sumy, and International Christian University (ICU) in Kyiv (capital of Ukraine). She had chosen to move to Kyiv and study Business Administration in the Western-style university ran by Austrians, Americans and Ukrainians. After two years at ICU, Maryna’s host family had invited her to study in the American college. She moved back to Utah in December 1998 and has been here every since. Maryna graduated from Utah Valley State College with her Bachelor of Science, Business Management, in 2002 earning high honors – Summa Cum Laude. Maryna works in the UVSC Office of International Affairs as a Coordinator of International Affairs, Deputy Director for the Utah-Russia Institute, Assistant to Honorary Consul General of the Russian Federation and as an Assistant to the Associate Vice-President for International Affairs. She loves her job and is proud to work at UVSC.
