Requirements and Policies
Integrated Studies Course Requirements
The student is required to choose two 18-20 hour emphases, as well as complete the Integrated Studies Core. An additional nine hours are open for electives, which are often prerequisites. The candidate for the bachelor's degree must complete a minimum of 124 hours.
Integrated Studies Core
- IS 3000 *: Introductory Topics in Integrated Studies
A first course in interdisciplinary approaches and research methods. Introduces a variety of topics crossing disciplines in science, religion, philosophy, history, literature, and so forth. Topics vary from semester to semester. This course is research and writing intensive and requires a final research paper. Involves writing across the curriculum.
- IS 3500 *: Topics in Integrated Studies
Advanced course in interdisciplinary approaches and research methods. Each term, the course examines a particular interdisciplinary topic in depth throughout the semester. Topics vary from semester to semester. Professors, either singly or as team-teachers, present topics that cross one or more fields of academic specialty, leading classes through lecture, reading, discussion, and research. This course is research and writing intensive and requires a final research paper. Involves writing across the curriculum.
- two upper-division Philosophy and / or theory courses that complement the student's emphases.
- Engl 3030: Students must complete English 3030, an advanced writing course.
- IS 4980 Capstone 1*: Beginning your Senior Thesis. An advanced research writing class.
- IS 499R *:Capstone 2*: Completion of the Senior Thesis.
* These classes should be taken sequentially; it takes four semesters to complete the major requirements.

Catalog
The official Integrated Studies contract with the student is always maintained in the UVSC Catalog. This supercedes anything said or written about Integrated Studies. It is linked on the left.
Matriculation and Admission
