Utah Valley State College
IS -- Senior Thesis

Thesis Guidelines

You must write a senior thesis or prepare a project that shows the integration of your two emphases. If you choose a project it must include a written research and theoretical component and be approved by your Advisory Committee. The Senior Thesis or Project is completed as a part of the IS 489R course. It is a is a three credit class designed to be completed in one semester. Approximately 3 hours of preparation per hour of credit should be allotted per week for completion of this project.

Guidelines

The thesis should represent the integration of the two emphases in the Integrated Studies Program. Each thesis should reflect serious academic research, clear and concise writing, and should consist of an in-depth discussion and analysis of the topic. Selection of Research.

Project

The selection of the research topic is of primary importance to the success of the project. The topic should be of interest to the student and reflect a personal, academic or career goal. Preliminary research may be necessary as part of this selection process.

Faculty supervisor and committee

The Advisory Committee should be organized and the advisory sheet signed before meeting with the Integrated Studies thesis advisor. The Advisory Committee consists of three members, the Integrated Studies Thesis Advisor and one full-time faculty member from each of your Integrated Studies emphases. Choose the member of the faculty from each of your focus departments who is most experienced and knowledgeable on the topic you have chosen.

Proposal

Prepare a written proposal requesting permission to do research on your chosen topic. The proposal should include a project summary, review of literature, outline and preliminary bibliography. The proposal is due the first week you are enrolled in 489R. The proposal should be read and approved by each advisor as you request their inclusion on your advisory committee.

All the forms you'll need to complete your Senior Thesis are available in the "forms" link on the left.
