Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why can't I log in to the System?

A. Use your UV ID to log in to the System. If your UV ID does not work, we may not have you in our system.  Please call us at ext. 1111, and we will be glad to add you as a user.

Q. What type of cable do I need to display my Laptop in a classroom?

A. You will need a "male to male" VGA cable.  If you would like to hear audio from the laptop through the system speakers, you will also need a "male to male" 1/8" audio cable (usually an option only in Media Enhanced rooms).

Q. Where can I get a cable to hook up my Laptop?

A. The Library Circulation Desk has them available for checkout to Faculty.  Media Services can also check them out from our office in LA 014.  They are also available for purchase at the Bookstore.

Q. I cannot get my Laptop to show up on the screen. What gives?

A. There are a number of reasons why this might be happenning:
  • Check to make sure the VGA cable is securely connected to the output of your Laptop.
  • Check the VGA cable for Damage (bent pins especially, are quite common).
  • Make sure "COMP" is selected as your source on the media control panel.
  • In rooms with another computer (most computer labs and WB Building Media Enhanced classrooms), there is a button on the touch panel that switches between the Laptop and the other computer. Make sure it is switched to "Laptop".
  • You must set up your Laptop to send a signal from the VGA output. How to do this will vary with each Laptop. It will most likely be a keystroke involving the "Fn" key. Please check your Laptop manual for specific instructions for your Laptop.

Q. Can I get a Cable TV line ran to my office/department?

A. Please contact Telephone Services. They can be reached at ext. 8157.

Q. Where can I find a list of Cable Channels available on Campus?
