What is it? Why should I participate?

Supplemental Instruction is group study that integrates how-to-learn with what-to-learn. Students who attend SI sessions discover appropriate application of study strategies as they review content material, e.g., graphic organization, questioning techniques, vocabulary acquisition, and test preparation. Students have the opportunity to become actively involved in the course material as the SI leader uses the text, supplementary readings, and lecture notes as vehicles for learning skills assistance. Attendance at SI sessions is voluntary; however, students who attend SI regularly earn higher course grades and withdraw less often than non-SI participants.

  • SI showed me things I had missed in the reading.
  • It made me more prepared for tests.
  • Talking in groups helped me understand the material.

  • It forced me to study when I didn't feel like it.
  • SI was a place where it was easy to ask questions.
  • I should have gone more.

You have to study anyway -
spend some of that time in SI!
