There are four options to resolve your moving traffic citation issued by UVU Department of Public Safety.
- Pay the citation fine by mail or in person at Orem Court, 97 East Center Street, Orem UT 84057. Phone 801-764-5867 This will waive your right to a trial, forfeit your bail, and have a conviction recorded and forwarded to the Drivers License Division. This will result in points being added to your driving record.
- If you would like to plead not guilty and contest the citation, you need to contact the court (at the address above) and pay the fine. A court date will be set and the fine you have paid will be held until that date. If you are found not guilty, the fine will be refunded to you. If you are found guilty the fine is applied to the charge, a conviction recorded and forwarded to the Drivers License Division. This will result in points being added to your driving record.
- If you choose to ignore the traffic citation, it will not go away. A warrant will be issued for your arrest and you will be booked into the Utah County Jail. It is then possible for you to be found guilty and points be added to your driving record.
- Traffic School is offered as a way to avoid the previous options and may be beneficial to you. You will need to sign a “Plea in Abeyance” with the Orem Court, and pay a $35 court fee.
Traffic school is usually held twice a month on the UVU campus and is taught by a state certified UVU Police Officer.
