July 14 - 19, 2008
This family-friendly festival, held in
mid- to late July, spans four days and features a variety of activities:
parades, variety shows, craft shows, horseshoe and softball tournaments, a
competitive Dutch oven cook-off, horse races, fireworks displays, and a 5K fun
run. Most events are free; however, a few, like the Balloon Lift at American
Fork High School, do charge nominal fees. Contact the event office for

- Costa Rica - May 19-30, 2008
Experience the diverse flora and fauna of tropical rain forests, the power and impact of plate tectonics, and the friendly culture of Costa Rica. Three UVU faculty (botany, geology, and zoology), working with a fun Costa Rican guide and naturalist, will lead you on an educational experience of the various ecological zones of Costa Rica and the geology of an active volcanic arc.

What a city! London—a modern metropolis rich with historical sites and cultural events—where students earn
academic credit while attending classes and integrating what they study with excursions to the main cultural and historical sites in and around the city, including the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, the Globe Theater, Stratford-upon-Avon, and Oxford.
- England/Scotland: Theatre - July 21 - August 14, 2008
Spending three weeks in the heart of London's West End Theatre District
and Edinburgh's International Play Festival, students will see all
types of theatre: musicals, cutting edge works, dramas, comedies,
classical and contemporary pieces alike.

Participants will intensively study French while living with a native
family in Nice as they discover the old city and its castle, then head
off to a week in Paris with the Notre Dame, the Louvre, the Eiffel
Tower, and much more!

Come and study in this culturally vibrant and student-friendly city. In Berlin you will have the opportunity to learn or improve your German, meet other students from around the world, and discover the beauty, the architecture, the fabulous food, and the fascinating people of Berlin.
- Italy: Art History and Humanities - April 28 - May 30, 2008
Walk through the Roman Colosseum, gaze in awe at Michelangelo’s David, and cruise the canals of Venice, all while earning UVSC credit. As the birthplace of much of western civilization, Italy gives each student the chance to see the architecture and art and study developments that influenced the western world from the Roman Empire to the Renaissance
- Japan - May 19 - June 30, 2008
UVU offers a program for students to learn Japanese and experience Japan’s people and culture. Students will live with Japanese families and travel throughout the country for two weeks. They will enjoy gadget stores in Tokyo, the bullet train, sushi and other exotic food, opportunities to speak the language with host families, and much more.
- Mexico: Environmental Technology/Sociology - April 30 - June 18, 2008
Experience life in the high plateaus of Mexico’s Sierra Madre among the Tarahumara Indians and in the villages of
Guanajuato, Mexico. The tentative itinerary includes visits to Mexico City, Oaxaca, and Puerto Escondido. You will experience the rich diversity of rural and urban Mexico while we engage in service with the people by participating with them in their efforts to improve their lives. You will learn about life in Mexico directly from the people, including leaders and natives. Our instructors will include college professors in Mexico, native healers, governors, and the people.

Experience the beauty, people, history, and civilization in Mérida, Yucatán, in July—or do both—all while improving your Spanish skills with one of UVU’s finest Spanish faculty and study abroad directors, Liliana Riboldi. Conclude the experience with a weekend stay at Cancún or Playa del Carmen culture of Mexico, all while studying Spanish in Puebla and/or Mérida.
Explore the mountain region of Puebla and the Teotihuacan, Aztec, and Olmec cultures in June, or discover the heart of the ancient May.

Experience the beauty, color, and culture of Spain while studying Spanish in Granada, one of Europe’s oldest cities, and in Santander, the capital of the rugged, green coastal region of Cantabria. Students “live” the language in a warm, colorful
setting, taking classes from Spanish teachers and living with a Spanish family. The tentative itinerary has the group visiting Cordoba, Sevilla, Jerez, Merida, Toledo, and Madrid.
- Taiwan: Healthcare - May 5 - June 18, 2008
Designed for students pursuing a degree or employment in healthcare or for those interested in traditional chinese medicine and Buddhist philosophies/teachings, this program explores healthcare in Taiwan! Students will learn about the professional practice of healthcare providers and the healthcare system, traditional Chinese medicine, interventions, and strategies for combining traditional healthcare practices with Western medicine. Students will have many opportunities for cultural immersion and will explore political, historical, and scenic sites. Program participants will experience the excitement of Taipei, a large metropolitan area, to Pan Wu, a small coastal community.
- Ukraine: Nursing - May 12-June 14, 2008
Experience the beautiful land, culture, and people of Ukraine while developing your nursing skills. Centuries of history and warm, hospitable hosts in the safe and beautiful European city of Chernivtsi await UVSC’s nursing study abroad program. Students will explore Chernivtsi, a city in western Ukraine near the borders of Moldova and Romania and nearby sites, such as the Carpathian Mountains. An end-of-program visit to the coast of the Black Sea will allow students to decompress after their nursing efforts in Chernivtsi.

- Successful Life Management - Eight week course
meeting bi-weekly where clients learn about communication styles,
listening skills, body language, centering, personal empowerment,
conflict resolution, negotiation skills, and creating loving
relationships.
- Marriage Workshop - One day, four hour
workshop, meets on Saturdays. A workshop for those seriously dating,
engaged, or married, who want to improve their relationships.
- Managing Life Transitions
- Six week course, meets once a week. Designed to help those facing the
challenges of being divorced. The class covers topics such as
forgiveness, setting and maintaining boundaries, problem solving and
more.
- Anger Management - Twelve week course, meets
once a week. Build upon the base of assertiveness principles, the
curriculum covers personal responsibility, communication styles, the
physical and psychological elements of anger, and more.
