How Have My Credits Transferred to UVSC?

GENERAL TRANSFER CREDIT ACCEPTANCE POLICY (top)
UVSC accepts credits from Colleges/Universities with an accreditation from the following List of Regional Accrediting Bodies, as long as the courses taken are college level and the grades received are "C-" or higher.

Transfer courses are posted as semester hours* with the grades earned, but are not calculated in the GPA.
*To convert quarter hours to semester hours, multiply the quarter hours by two then divide by three.

Transfer courses will not be accepted from other institutions for the purpose of posting a repeat on a course taken at UVSC.

Individual departments reserve the right to impose limits on the age and grade level of transfer credit.

There is no limit to the number of transfer credits which may be accepted; however, UVSC Graduation Requirements such as residence, total credits, and GPA must still be met.

To look up courses at other colleges and see how UVSC accepts them, view our Transfer Articulation database.

Regional Accrediting Bodies

For transfer credit to be accepted by UVSC, the institution from which credit is to be transferred must be accredited by one of the following regional associations:
  • Middle States Association of Colleges & Schools (MSA)
  • Northwest Commission on Colleges & Universities (NWCCU)
  • North Central Association of Colleges & Schools - Higher Learning Commission (NCA)
  • New England Association of Schools & Colleges, Inc. - Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (NEASC-CIHE)
  • Southern Association of Colleges & Schools - Commission on Colleges (SASC-CC)
  • Western Association of Schools & Colleges - Accrediting Commission for Community & Junior Colleges (WASC-ACCJC)
  • Western Association of Schools & Colleges - Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges & Universities (WASC-ACSCU)
Individual departments may choose to make exceptions to this list.

TRANSCRIPT PROCESS AND EVALUATION (top)
It is the student's responsibility to contact all previous colleges they have attended and request Official Transcripts of their college courses to be sent to UVSC's Admissions Office at the following address:

Utah Valley State College
Attention: Admissions Office
800 West University Parkway
Orem, UT 84058-5999

Transcripts must be less than 6 months old to be considered official and are considered UVSC property after received...they will not be given back to the student. Transcripts accepted as official by the UVSC Admissions Office are automatically sent to the Transfer Services Office for evaluation and posting. The average processing time of the transcript varies according to time of the year it is received and normally takes from 6-8 weeks. Please have transcripts sent as soon as you are admitted. The transcripts are processed on a first come, first served basis to make it fair for all students. We do all we can to get transcripts entered quickly.

The Transfer Services Office may request the student to supply a catalog, bulletin, or course outline(s) from colleges attended to assist in determining the transferability of specific courses.

Unofficial Transcripts
UVSC does not grant credit from an unofficial transcript due to possible tampering with the transcript which may occur. A transcript is considered unofficial if it:

  • is a copy;
  • is faxed or received in an otherwise unofficial manner (unsealed envelope, etc);
  • has a print date older than 6 months;
  • has been opened prior to being submitted to the UVSC Admissions Office (even if opened by UVSC faculty, advisor, or other employee).

Lower Division Courses for Upper Division Courses
If subject content is equivalent, lower division (1000 or 2000 level) courses transferred from other institutions may be substituted by departments for UVSC upper-division (3000 or 4000 level) courses. However, these courses will not satisfy upper-division credit-hour requirements. The baccalaureate degree requires a minimum of 40 hours of upper-division credit.

Military Evaluation
The Veteran's military discharge paper and ALL transcripts must be received within the 1st semester of attendance if using VA benefits:
Once the DD 214 (Member 4 Copy) and/or Transcript(s) are received, the Military courses are evaluated individually, taking into account the recommendations from the ACE Guide to the Evaluation of Education Experiences in the Armed Services.
Please refer to the Veterans Website and/or the Veterans Office for further information.

International Transcript Evaluation
Please refer to the International Transcripts Website.

TRANSFERRING FROM A COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY IN THE UTAH SYSTEM OF HIGHER EDUCATION (top)
For transfer students from any Utah State Higher Education Institution (USHE), UVSC shall accept at full value all General Education course work approved by the sending institution (with a "C-" grade or higher received) in any area specified by the Board of Regents document R470. These areas include Composition, Quantitative Literacy, Fine Arts, Humanities, Social and Behavioral Science, Biology and Physical Science.

UVSC requires transfer students to complete any additional coursework needed to satisfy the unmet portions of the UVSC General Education Requirements. Previously completed General Studies course work will be applied to assure the best possible fit with UVSC General Education Requirements.

An Associate in Science/Arts degree earned at any USHE institution will meet the General Education requirements of UVSC (with one exception - all students must meet the American Institutions requirement). Some majors may require students to complete specific general education courses.
