Active Duty
While on active duty, you can use one of the three benefits:
- Tuition Assistance:
- Top-Up:
- Top-up is a combination of Tuition Assistance and GI Bill. If Tuition Assistance does not pay the full cost of tuition, Top-up uses a portion of your GI Bill entitlement to pay the remainder cost.
- Your contact is your Education Office where you are stationed.
- More information is available online at www.gibill.va.gov
- GI Bill:
- You can use the GI Bill for different training types, including school attendance or flight training. You can use the GI Bill for one or the other, not both flight and schooling.
- Active Duty GI Bill for School Attendance reimburses tuition and fees in monthly payments. An example is if tuition was $1600 total, then your monthly Active Duty GI Bill will pay you $400 per month.
- Most active duty students use their GI Bill as a last resort because they would rather use their 36 months of GI Bill after they are discharged.
- Your contact for the Active Duty GI Bill is both your Education Office where you are stationed and the UVSC Veterans Office.
