VA Educational Benefits for Aviation Majors
Contacts for VA Educational Benefits (top)
- You may use the GI Bill toward School Attendance OR Flight Training, but not both at the same time.
- GI Bill - School Attendance
- Aviation degrees at UVSC are approved for the MGI Bill - School Attendance.
- You would receive a monthly payment based on the amount of credit hours you are enrolled in each semester.
- Full-time (12 credit hours during a 15 week semester) would receive the full VA benefit.
- Part-time would receive partial VA benefits based on credit hours:
- 3/4 time (9-11 credit hours)
- 1/2 time (6-8 credit hours)
- 1/4 time (5 credit hours)
- All classes must apply toward your major.
- MGI Bill benefits do not start until after school starts since you are being paid to attend school. Students are usually required to pay tuition before this time and should make arrangements accordingly.
- Your enrollment in school will be certified to the VA by the UVSC Veterans Office after all the necessary information is received. It takes the VA 4-6 weeks to process this information.
- The following UVSC Flight Classes MUST be taken through a SAA approved flight school if using this benefit:
- AVSC 1110, 1230, 1250, 2310, 2410, 2430, 2450, & 2510.
- If your flight school is not SAA approved, the credit hours for these classes cannot be counted toward your total credit hours that semester. Flight schools should know if they are SAA approved or you can contact your State Approving Agency. Being affiliated with UVSC or being a 141 school does not mean the flight school is SAA approved.
- Contact your flight school to get a copy of the letter from the SAA showing they are SAA approved. Send a copy of the SAA approval letter to the UVSC Veterans Office. Certification for the credits associated with the above listed courses can not be done until this letter is received by the UVSC Veterans Office.
- GI Bill - Flight Training (60/40 Reimbursement Program):
- This program is not processed through the UVSC Veterans Office.
- Your flight school would handle the paperwork for this program.
- You would receive a 60% reimbursement for flight hours for the commercial pilot license. You must have your private pilot license and attend a flight school that offers the GI Bill for flight training (141 school).
- For more information on this program, contact the VA or your flight school.
