Program Description
The Service-Learning Distinction program was created in 2002 to recognize UVSC students who actively try to make a difference in their communities and seek opportunities for academic and personal growth.
To receive the award, students are required to participate in volunteer service, keep a reflective service journal, lead a major service project, and complete service-learning courses. Once a student completes the program he or she receives a service-learning distinction notation on their transcript, cords to wear at graduation, a certificate of completion, and an invitation to attend the Center for Service and Learning award and recognition banquet.
Requirements
- 300 hours of direct service (4 year program) /150 hours of direct service (2 year program)
- Completion of a service journal
- Completion of 10 credits of approved service-learning courses (4 year program) /Completion of 5 credits of approved service-learning courses (2 year program)
- Lead a major service project
In order to enroll as a Service Scholar you must attend an orientation meeting. Please e-mail
volunteer@uvsc.edu or call 863-8786 to sign up for an orientation meeting or drop by our office and individually meet with one of our work-study students.
